12 years ago, a dear friend was dying and knew she may not make it to my birthday. So she had her son got me a box of Whitman’s Chocolates (sampler) and a card. She had no family besides him, but treated my family and me with great love! It meant so much that she had such a strong desire to make me happy just days before her passing, although I never even expected anything from her.
We didn’t know each other long but had many special moments together, which I am even more thankful for now. I am also very thankful that on this date 12 years ago, despite being kind of tired and not up for seeing her, I made the extra effort and checked in. It was the last time we would see each other. She was just about 48 hours from passing at that point, yet was still concerned for me. She didn’t want me to be sad. So sweet of her! I told her I would be fine.
I miss her, but I am so thankful that we had those moments together. And even more thankful that she was at peace when she died. When I first met her, she was very scared. – Susi
