Archie’s Fight
I came across Archie’s Fight on Instagram. I read about this beautiful little fighter, only two years old, that has been diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis and Anterior Horn Cell Disease. This is only Australia’s third diagnosis of this disease, which has caused paralysis in Archie’s right arm, both legs, and his chest. I was really touched as I have a 5-year-old and a 16-month-old and it all felt too close to home.
I got in touch with Archie’s auntie via instagram and asked if they would like an illustration of this little man. She instantly accepted and sent me a couple of good pictures. I chose one and did one with a Thomas the tank engine background for him (his auntie told me he loved trains) and one for his parents with a striped background. They loved it. It was special as in all his pictures he has medical equipment on his face and in the illustration we were able to remove them and simply catch his sweet and happy face.
I was so glad we were able to put a smile on their face, but really, it all seemed a bit small in comparison with the real great kindness act, which was from Archie’s Auntie Casey, who created the account Archie’s fight on Instagram and helped raise funds and awareness for her nephew and family. I suppose, in the end, she is the real hero. – Ana
