I was holding half of my heart

My twin boys were born at 28 weeks and quickly whisked away to the NICU.

After hours of worry and trying to rest, I was finally taken to see them. Even though they were covered in tubes and wires they were so beautiful, but the “magic” came when their father and I were given the choice of one of us holding one of our baby boys.

I had never held a baby under 6 months and he was so small that I was terrified. I almost gave up that first hold, but daddy gave me so much encouragement, so I did.

At that moment everything disappeared and I realized I was holding half of my heart, while the other half laid right beside us. It wasn’t until 2 months later when they came home that I found out the reason they let me hold him that first day was because they weren’t sure if he would make it through the night.

Happily I can say I have two very healthy little boys who will turn 4 in March. – Leslie ❀
