Never diss the dog!

Meet Doggie, my sons (15) beloved BFF. He has had this since he was 7 months old. He has dived out of bed and cut his forehead open and flung himself down the stairs (with no injury thank god) to ‘save’ this toy. He has sat in front of the washing machine watching him go round and then taken up residence in front of the radiator to watch him dry.

Never-Diss-The-DogWe have paid for him to be posted across the country when left at a relatives and he has been as important as prescribed medication when remembering things to pack to take away. My son is a large man-sized 15-year-old, and friends have always known never to diss the dog. Occasionally he has been put up on the shelf but has always been retrieved again. This Monday son had an operation and didn’t think he would need to take him with him. He spent his time afterwards with my phone on his bed with this very picture of his saviour, knowing he was at home waiting to do his job.

Now I’ll tell you that my son is Autistic, and I thank this little threadbare, face squished toy for his remarkable ability to face the world despite his instinct to keep away from it. Never diss the dog. – Karen 🙂
