She’s not so scary after all!

When I was in the 5th grade, I missed the bus and had to walk to school by myself. My first time and I was terrified, even though it was probably only 8 blocks from the school. So I did what any kid would probably do in my situation… I coaxed my old dog, who had to have been 13 years old, to walk with me which she did and it totally took my mind off of being alone and scared. She was the greatest dog and went with me everywhere including every paper route, so I never had to walk alone even then. Well, when I got to school, I told her to wait so I could walk home with her, what 7 hours later!!! (poor dog!) But instead, she sat at the front door of the school and howled!

My principal came to the classroom and asked if she was my dog. I thought I was going to get in trouble for coaxing her to school, but instead, the Principal said “let’s take her home”, and she put her in her car, not caring if she was shedding or dirty. She wasn’t at all the kind of person I assumed she was. Because as a kid, you never really think of the principal as someone that is NICE, and caring, and if you are told to go to the principals office, you think of them only as disciplinarians. I opened my eyes alot more that day, and thankfully years later, when I was in high school, I was standing in line and realized I was standing behind her! I was able to tell her thank you and how much that meant to me that day! – Rhonda ♥
