Thank you for talking to me

I worked for a very short time at a local store, let’s call it Mal Wart, and it was terrible not only because it was a thankless job, but also because of the super clicky staff.
One day at lunch I sat with one of my coworkers in the lunchroom that was sitting by herself. I had lunch with her and made friendly small talk while everyone else in the room crowded to the “popular table” (actually a thing).
When we were walking back to the floor, she thanked me for talking with her because no-one else ever did. She had been working there for over 20 years. It broke my heart that people can be this awful and it meant so much to her. – Shannon
