My parents are just too cute!
I love listening to older people talk about their day and their life.
Recently both my mum and dad were in hospital at the same time (both with cellulitis!!!), but on different wards.
It was hilarious going in to visit them both. Dad had never been to hospital before and was full of praise for those who were kind and treated him well, but he unfortunately encountered a few staff with limited patience!
I’d pick my dad up from his bed and off we’d trot to visit mum. He’d grumble about being there, that the doctor had told him to behave and wouldn’t let him go home, and then he’d admit to being a terrible patient. I’d tell him to stop the whining or I’d tell them to keep him a little longer than necessary. He’d smile and give me a squeeze.
When we got to mum’s room, the two of them would tell me about the annoying things that had happened in the past 24 hours since I was last there. This patient has anger issues, that nurse is rough and grumpy, I couldn’t sleep all night because that man snores like a truck…. I’d always walk out giggling to myself.
Mum came home before dad and she enjoyed the days of solitude whilst preparing herself for weeks of dad reliving his terrible ordeal! Each time I went to visit them at home to do their shopping or bring them some dinner, dad would start his rant about the “pain and suffering” he went through (he says it in a light hearted and funny way)! Though he complained a lot, he now has a much greater respect for his health. I’m not going back in there he’d say!
He’s still often recalls his “ordeal” in the hospital and even his grandchildren look at my mum with little smiles on their faces. She just sighs and rolls her eyes!
