An Inspirational Child

Hello, my son, Joseph is a 15-year-old boy with Autism. He was diagnosed at the age of two when there wasn’t enough awareness like there is today, and still in need of more!

He is bright, pretty verbal, friendly, funny, lovable, and my inspiration! He inspires me, and so many others that have entered his life! Besides from having autism, he also has high anxiety disorder behavioral and sensory issues. He truly is a fighter! He fights to fit into society each and every day despite having these extremely challenging issues!

I can’t even begin to imagine what it feels like to be him, and to have to deal with his struggles, but one thing I know as his mother, I always encourage him and support him with all my heart!

Joseph has told me many times, “Mommy I am talking a lot more!” with great pride in his facial expression, and “Mommy, I try very hard to fight the bad feelings in my head!” “Mommy I try to make good choices!”

There was one time, a few years back I will never forget! Joseph loves car rides and his dad was taking him on a ride when they passed a church, and his dad stopped the car in front of the church and asked him, “Joseph what is this place? And Joseph looked up, and said a church! Then his dad asked him, Joseph what do you do in a church? And he replied you pray! Then his dad asked him, “Joseph if you have one wish what would it be?” And he said I pray to God to be a regular kid, and to have friends! His dad just died inside…

This is why it is so very important to believe in your child and never give up on him!! I believe that is one of the greatest reasons why he never gives up on himself….. And keep trying! He feels the love and support that we give him each and every day!

I wanted to share Joseph’s story, because with all his issues, especially his challenging behavior, I will stand with him through good and bad times, and this Mom will always have his back!!
