Complimentary soup
In October 2015, I was diagnosed with stage 3b cancer. I’ve finished all treatments and am now in remission, but going through the experiences of radiation and chemo, I learned how hard it is, not only on the patient but for caregivers as well. Since then I’ve tried to be conscious of opportunities to reach out to families dealing with cancer.
Tonight at work (I’m a waitress) I had a table come in and when I offered them the complimentary soup, they asked if they could take it to go. Well, that’s not allowed, but they said they were going to take it home to their sick brother, so I did it.
I came to find out their brother has throat cancer and just had surgery to remove half his tongue and a bunch of lymph nodes for biopsy to determine staging and treatment options. He can’t chew, he’s in pain, scared, and, just plain freaking hungry.
So I bought and paid for a vegetable plate and sent him applesauce, mashed potatoes, and banana pudding. I hope he could eat some of it. Poor guy. – Erin 🙁
