Her name was Diane

Kindness Can Touch A Person.
A lady was walking by my house recently on the street as the snow plows had not cleared the side walks… we are having a terrible snowy/cold longer than normal winter… she was walking on a busy street by my house.

I decided to pull over and ask her if I could offer her a ride. She accepted and after talking for a few minutes and finding out she was not going too far out of my way, I offered to drive her to her destination and be late for the breakfast I was going to. Once I insisted, she started to cry and explain that it was the kindest thing anyone had done for her in many years.

She then went on to tell me her story. She had been cut off from her family and nieces for many years and was very saddened by this and went on to explain that her family has not understood her mental illness and this had been very hard on her. She had no relations with family or friends for years. She then mentioned that she will be lucky to survive the winter due to her severe anorexia and that she has to go out daily no matter what the weather according to her therapist. So she decided in this blizzard that she was going to go out no matter what and she was so moved by my generosity and told me that it was so nice to know that there was still kind people out there.

I thought this was so sad that this meant so much to her. It was something so simple and I did not hesitate to do and I did not think much of as it was not a big deal to me.

We had reached her destination by this point and she was in tears and so was I. I had not even notice how thin she was until she left my vehicle and walked across to the store she was going to. I have never seen anyone up close this frail and small and then I cried more.

Her name was Diane and I think of her often and hope that she is still making out and I actually keep an eye out for her on that street. I also hope that many more people have shown her kindness and have spoken to her as the person I saw her for that day and not her illness.

I went to breakfast that day and was distracted with my thoughts of Diane.  – Kelly ♥
