They could have stopped to help

Yesterday I was doing errands and decided to take our dog to a dog park in an area we lived in 10 yrs ago. Needless to say the dog part of the park no longer exists, so I began driving home.

Traffic was pretty heavy and all the sudden I saw a man with a cane had fallen on the sidewalk and no one was stopping to help him. It is a residential area and the flow of traffic was going about 20 mph. I was in the left lane and could not easily get over, but I did and it was at the entrance to my old neighborhood so I knew I could cut through it and get back around to help the man.

He had managed to get himself up but was not walking very well. I pulled over and asked if he was ok, that I had seen he had fallen and wanted to check on him. He was obviously quite ill, very grey skin tone and wobbling on his cane. He said that he wasn’t feeling very well. I asked if I could take him somewhere and he said up the street to a store where someone was supposed to help him get groceries. They had not eaten in 3 days nor their dogs and he was diabetic!

I offered to take him to buy food but he refused, so I dropped him at the store and gave him $20 and he did not want to take it. I told him I had it and he needed it and I wanted him to get food. His main concern was feeding his dogs. I begged him to buy them a smaller bag and get something to eat for himself.

Anyway, I drove away so very upset that no one helped him. I told a friend last night and she said “yes, someone did, you did. You were put in that place at that time to help him.”

So be thankful today that you ate, have the internet and all the gadgets you use to access it and all the other wonderful things in your life. It has been many many years since I knew what it was to not have food, but I never went 3 days with no food. And yes, many people scam others, giving a sad tale of woe, but I could see there was a great need with this man and he was quite ill and not drug addict or alcoholic kind of ill. I’m glad I could help, but I have still been very upset about it today.

Yes, I believe I was put there to help him, my upset come from the volume of people sitting in the traffic going slow enough that they could have stopped to help. – Kim ❤
