A “Miracle” for the Cleaner
I have great memories of a practice development workshop I attended a number of years ago that Dr John Hinwood was conducting. We were looking at how our attitudes to money could either hold us back or move us forward in life. It was a pretty intense session, with loads of energy in the room as some people really struggled with the concepts.
We had just completed a session on ‘Release, Let Go and Move On,’ and had made a big mess, having torn up paper into tiny pieces which were now strewn all over the floor like confetti. Now, John told us to stand on our chairs and pull out the largest note we had in our wallet or purse. Quite a few $50 notes were produced, as well as some $20 notes. I think there was well over $500 in total. The exercise was about ‘How money can control us.’ We had to trust the process, let John take the money from us, and be prepared to lose it. He took each person’s note, screwed them all up, and then threw them all in the air so that they landed on the floor amongst all the rubbish.
The money was still on the floor when the conference finished. I was standing at the back of the room and saw John walk up to the cleaner who had just entered the room to do her job. He introduced himself and said, “Look, we’ve made quite a large mess on the floor. I really apologize for this.” Then he handed the woman an “Expect a Miracle” card, which made her laugh. He then said, “Thank you very much, we don’t require anything that’s on the floor, so if there’s anything of interest there, you can keep it for yourself.” He then wished her a good night and walked out the door.
I was so intrigued by what the cleaner’s reaction would be when she found the money that I stayed in the room to watch. When she walked to the front of the room and saw what was on the floor, she screamed with delight. I’m sure she knew that the “Expect a Miracle” card that John had given her had indeed delivered the miracle of all that money on the floor amongst all the confetti. – Dr Clinton McCauley
