Spread a little love

Last night the kids and I ran to Kroger because we felt like baking cookies. In the checkout line there was a lady in front of me. She smiled at me. I was laughing. She said what’s so funny? I said the cashier just tried to ring up someone’s umbrella (it had been raining) she laughed and continued chatting.

“Oh, cookies? How fun!” She was so sweet and pleasant. I hate how people are so smug and cold these days. Then I overheard the cashier ask the elderly woman, how her car was running today. (It seems he remembered her from a previous encounter.) She replied that it was running fine and she was grateful it was. I felt an impulse and I couldn’t stop it. As soon as he told her the total, I handed him cash and told him I got her. He smiled and handed me my change before she realized what happened. It was awesome!

She tried to swipe her card and I’m like, I got you! She was so surprised! She asked me “why?” I told her because she was “nice”. I wanted to encourage that warmth I got from her. She hugged me and asked my name.

I have had people do this for me and it’s the most wonderful feeling. To know that someone cares about a stranger! In a world where sometimes all we see is hatred and indifference, it’s amazing what happens when you spread a little love. – Jean 2764 Fe0F
