My son Ben, is 13 years old. He is raising money for a trip his class are taking to NYC. He’s doing odd jobs, collecting cans and bottles from family and friends, raking leaves, shoveling snow and other odd jobs. Basically, anything that will help with his trip costs ($3,000). Since we want him to pay for as much of this trip as he can, every cent counts to him.
Last week, on our way to the can/bottle recycling center we passed a homeless vet and his dog. After we left the center Ben had me drive back to the gentleman huddled in the cold. Ben got out and handed the man his ‘take’ of the day. $12.85 was a fortune to this polite and kind gentleman who thanked Ben and shook his hand.
This is $12.85 Ben won’t have to earn. I slipped an IOU into his coin jar with a thank you for his kindness, for being my son and for being the kind of man he’s growing up to be. – Debra ❤
